WAZ Group & mobileview bring Bulgaria’s biggest newspapers to mobile phones
The two largest daily newspapers in the country, “24 Chasa” and “Dneven Trud”, will kick the project off: Since only around 19% of the Bulgarian population has access to the Internet via PC, an attractive “mobile Internet alternative” via mobile phone is being offered to interested users. In an initial step, these two WAP portals can be used only via our own new prepaid offer “NEWSmobile” for free.
With the help of this portal, users can get the latest news from sport, politics, business and society around the clock. Dneven Trud and 24 Chasa readers will thus get information more quickly about current developments from around the world, as well as the latest sporting events. Both partners have a long-term view in sight: Step by step, mobileview will use the entire bandwidth of premium rate services involving costs after the launch of the WAP portal, so as to constantly increase the attractiveness of this acquisition. And Bulgaria is just the start. “Our experiences with this project will be extraordinarily helpful. We will be able to adapt and optimally prepare roll out for further countries in the region,” explains Guido Orthaus, Head of Sales at mobileview.
The WAZ Media Group has been involved in the Bulgarian market since 1996 and has been the sole shareholder in the first private press group 168 Stunden GmbH since July 1997, and thus Bulgaria’s first foreign investor in the media area. In February 1997, the WAZ Media Group was expanded with a minority share in Media Holding AG, the largest Bulgarian press company. Since 2006, the WAZ Media Group has been the majority shareholder there.
